This editor uses "slots" so you can update content without needing to know HTML.
It also includes a Code editor to update the HTML or add your own slots.
Simple HTML can also be entered in a slot field.
Text like this {{FullName}} is a placeholder for content that will be replaced with recipient-specific content when the email is sent.
These tokens can be moved around but deleting them will remove them from the sent email.
Note:The content isn't saved until you click Save!
The “Order Update” serves many purposes and so this articles attempts to break it into component parts to help make it easy to edit.
Step One: The Preview
At the top of the email template editor is the preview screen. As you edit the “slots’ you’ll see the preview change to reflect your edits.
This is how the preview looks:
Step Two: The “For Everyone Message”
The order update gets generated and sent out by email if any of the following things happen to an order:
The whole order gets shipped
The whole order is ready for pick-up
Some of the order is shipped but some is back-dated (the order is split)
The whole order is backdated
Some or all of the order is downloadable
The credit card has been declined at the point of payment
At the top of the Order Update is a general message that will be at the top of the outbound email regardless of the purpose of the update.
In the preview, this “for everyone” message looks like this:
Each part of the generic message has a ‘slot’ as shown below:
Step Three: If you sometimes release Split Shipments
If ever you release split shipments, then you will want to prepare the notification that goes out when you fulfill part of an order, leaving another part on back-order.
In the preview window, the split shipment notification looks like this:
The message that explains a split shipment can be managed with a slot.
If you want the sentence to stand out at the top of your outbound email, you can use a little HTML if you’re comfortable with it. See below for an example.
In the case of a split shipment, every individual shipment will be identified in the email. Each one will have a description of the ‘shipping method’ and you can, separately, manage the description via a ‘topic’ which will be named appropriately:
When all the items on an Order Update notification have been shipped together, then there is no need for a split shipment and all the line items will be in a single shipment, as follows:
Step Four: Sometimes, credit cards are declined …
Since credit card payments don’t always get approved, you will want to prepare the notification that goes out when a card is declined. In the preview, that looks like this:
The “Decline Message” is handled with a slot as shown below.
Step Five: Ad-hoc Messaging
Your Order Update notification can, optionally, include a customer service message. This might be seasonal, or permanent.
The customer service message looks like this in the preview window:
The customer service message is managed with a slot as shown below.
