Preparing your Upgrade

You can save time and improve your upgrade experience by preparing well. Each of the following steps is optional and separate.

1 Checking your connection

An upgrade is always going to need access to your live site. We will be asking you for FTP detail, which you should be able to get from your hosting company.

It will waste your time if the FTP details are out of date, or inaccurate. You can test them using an FTP tool - there are many free tools available - in this example, we will assume that you have downloaded FILEZILLA.

Open FILEZILLA and use the FTP credentials that you think are accurate, entering them as follows:

Click QUICKCONNECT and, if your credentials are accurate, then you should see your store open up in the right hand panel.

If you are interested enough, then you can double-click your storename

Eventually, you should see a folder called 'wwwroot'.

That's good enough preparation. If FILEZILLA says that it can't connect, then please check with your hosting company and explain that your FTP tool isn't connecting using the login details.

2 Check your Payment Gateway

Older versions of AspDotNetStorefront may have different payment gateway integrations than what is available in the latest version. Before you start - make sure your live store is already using one of these built-in payment gateways. You can check this by going to the Site Configuration Wizard, Site Setup Wizard, or by looking at the AppConfig value for 'PaymentGateway' in your admin console.

If you find that you're using a payment gateway that's no longer built-in, we recommend switching to Authorize.net, which is easy to set up, and is supported on all major versions of AspDotNetStorefront. You can sign up here.

3 Preparing your template

The first decision you will make as part of your upgrade is which template to use. On the left hand menu, you will see your choices - please take your time to look through carefully and choose.

4 Preparing your images

Once you have chosen your template, it's much quicker and easier to know what size images you will need.

Note: If, for the first pass at your Push Button Upgrade, you would like to make it REALLY easy, then you can download our sample images here. Just choose your template and download the images - put them somewhere safe on your computer so that you can upload them during your upgrade.
